The river Mill
The original mill dates back to Roman times and produced wheat and rye. Other signs of its history include a wine press cut into the stone outside the front door, a settlement of ruins, free standing stones and a set of ancient bread ovens. The mill itself now serves to provide us with hydro-electricity.
Sangha
Sangha is a Sanskrit word used in many Indian languages meaning COMMUNITY. A sangha is a community of friends practicing together in order to bring about and to maintain awareness. The essence of a sangha is awareness, understanding, acceptance, harmony and love.

Vision
- Terra, Portuguese for Earth. Sangha, Sanskrit for Community -
On discovering this dream land the vision was clear right from the beginning. To share this piece of paradise, cultivate the land and create an off-grid, self-sufficient, food forest sanctuary for those who wish to come and experience the beauty of Serra de São Mamede Natural Park.
Terra Sangha encompasses regenerative agriculture, permaculture, natural healthcare, retreats and workshops. A life in harmony with nature and learning from the biodiversity of the natural park. The land and nature, in this sheltered valley, offer all the holding and peace one may need to reset and breathe. A place for getting back to the basics and the simple joys of wild river swimming, watching wild life and hiking ancient trails.
Nature expresses itself in an especially exuberant way in the Natural Park of the Serra de São Mamede. We are continued to be astonished by this beautiful part of rural Portugal. With its untouched nature, ancient fortresses and unique wildlife it feels like heading back in time.
